Rick Steves' Best of South Italy Tour
By Bob and Donna Gregoire
A copy of Rick Steves' current guidebook is a very handy resource for travelers. We simply cut out pertinent sections, staple the pages together, and we have a light weight guide to carry in a shoulder bag.
Rick Steves' "pre-tour planner" is also very helpful and answers many questions, especially for the first timer, or a reminder for old hands.
We began our trip flying into Rome from Seattle, Washington. Our plan was to arrive two days early to allow for adjusting to local time, which is highly recommended so that when the tour began we were ready and energized. We traveled with our friends Darrel and Carol from Oregon, and met friends Chris and Dave, who were also from Washington. We had met Chris and Dave on a recent Rick Steves' Sicily tour and have remained friends.
We upgraded our Rome flight to comfort seats which experience taught us helped with the initial jet lag, and left us a little fresher when we arrived.
